I watched this super cool show!

So I taped this new documentary thing on TLC this last weekend and it's a brand new two part thing on the Since of Sex Appeal. It's brand new and they had so much freakingly great information. I DVRed it and I am so bored that I even took notes so I could make a great blog entry. So i'm not going into too much detail about this like the studies they did and stuff but I wanted to point out the things that I thought were the most interesting for me.

First of all they use to say that it was all in the eye of the beholder, which sometimes I totally think is true but after watching this I sorta can I guess see some other things to be true based on the scientific evidence presented in the show.

They talked about the ideal man and women for a bit which we can already guess what it is from the media... They found that there is actually alot of brain activity going on when people are looking at the human body. The figured out that the sexiest female body is that the waist should be 7/10ths as wide as the hip. They ran into the problem though that people wanted proportions that were actually unnatural and that the most attractive bodies are the extremes and the impossible. They also talked about how we judge a body based on how it moves. Men with manly swaggers and women with lots of hip movement are seen as more attractive. So what we need is a sexy strut!

They talked about how we tend to aim too high in a potential partner/mate and then we have to work our way down to someone who will accept us. ( well that's kinda depressing sorta)

Then they talked about our voices. So women tend to be attracted to men with lower more manly voices and men tend to be attracted to women with lady like voices. ( I always thought I had a low voice...well that sucks for me!)

They made this great point that women are pickier about a mate! They have more to risk. They risk a 9 month pregnancy and years of caring for kids, where as a guy can have a one night stand walk away and not have to do a thing. So that is one factor as to why women are picky. They then talked about how sometimes having alot of stuff ( like cars etc.) can change the way women see men in terms of attraction.

They got into this whole ovulation thing. They found that women's voices are actually different during ovulation than not. They are also seen as being more physically attractive when ovulating as well.

They even talked about fermones. Guys give off this smell but it's actually really musky and women are generally not attracted to it except during this one time in the fertility cycle. They even talked about how smell has alot to do with incest. They did an experiment of sweaty shirts and women had to smell them. She we repulsed by the sweaty shirt of her male relative ( she didn't know it was a relative) So they said that possibly back in the cave man days that humans relied more on smell and by smell they could pick out the potential mates they were not related to thus incest was kind of eliminated.

Women give off their own smell as well and that can be very empowering over men.
So Men give off an stink that repels all except those ovulating.

They went on to talk about other stuff, um then they talked how women's behavior can change mens testosterone levels and they go into the whole dopamine in the brain thing... etc. etc.

The last interesting bit was when they talked about monogamy and how in these monogomas prarie voles they found that those who stuck to one mate had higher levels of a chemical in the brain called 'vasopressin' and those who had numerous mates had low levels of the chemical. They found this in men too! So those manwhores out there are going to have low levels of this chemical and those who are faithful are going to have higher levels of it.

So over all i thought it was fascinating to watch this. So that's my interesting blog entry.

In other news, the big 22 is coming up, what else... oh nothing else.
