Really really long blog entry

I left and am now back from " the other side of the world" as my cousin put it. No I was just in Guatemala. It was such a wonderful trip! I miss the food and the culture so much.

First of all I missed 4th of July. I will admit I am not very patriotic, so I kind of made my fb status a joke the day after. I said something along the lines of, " 4th of july? what's what? When was it? Yeah I don't think they have that down here...I don't think I missed out." As you may or not may know alot of my friends and I share the same rather liberal political views, so I was hoping they would understand that because I was in a different country at the time they would get the joke.

Apparently one person was not so understanding, as he has more conservative views. So he tells me that I am anti-american. Which really made me feel bad. So I talked with my friend who is from Guatemala and she related to a discussion we had had earlier that same day.

To refer to the US as America isn't really the most correct way. The continent is America. So that includes Canada and Latin America. The better way to refer to the US is well to say The US or United States. Then I remembered in Intercultural Com class sophomore year that the correct term to refer to people from the US is 'US Americans'.

So later I saw that person who said that I was un-American was on fb chat. I just asked him why he thought I was anti-American. What ended up happening was that he took the discussion further than it needed to go and I ended up really upset because of what he said.

-First I explained the whole refer to us as the US not America, it's a little more correct.
- Then he went into this whole thing about how I was ungreatful and if it wasn't because of the US we'd all be living in bamboo huts and eating leaves.
- I said I was very greatful and that while he was born into the ' All American life' I was born in a country where I wasn't born in a hospital and I was sick and I am very greatful that my family wanted me to have a better home and put me up for adoption. I also added on that if I wasn't greatful I wouldn't want to go and learn about other cultures.
- He didn't respond to that comment and continued to talk about how the US is the ' Free world'.
- While I agree that in the US there are many many opportunities that other countries do not have when I think of the term ' the free world' I think of the Cold war.
- I then pointed out that the US hasn't always been nice to other countries especially Central America.
- This kid then said he didn't care what happened to Central America in the 1980's and that what a certain president ( not going to name names) did was for the best interest and that he was a great leader( I had previously told him about what that president had done to Guatemala during the 80's)
- I then replied with, " So violating human rights is ok with you?" (in the 80's this particular president was signing documents sending in military supplies to Guatemala to fund the 36 year civil war in Guatemala and the genocide of thousands of innocent indigenous people.

So after that I really though this kid had taken this farther than it needed to go. I just gave up and said, " I'm really disappointed in you I'm going to go." So I haven't talked to this person since, and I don't plan to. I think I did a good job at defending my point but I think he took it too far.

In other news:

I worked at my new rink job yesterday and this rink worker was there, selling tickets for open skate. I guess he's been with the rink for 5 years. I was in charge of the rink and all was fine, somehow we were talking and I dunno what's with this kid, he either has no social skills or is a complete ass hole. He told me he's been trying to get my job for 2 years and he rudely gave me congrats for getting the job. I just don't think that's very polite. The he went on about how he didn't understand as to why he didn't get the job. Before he came my boss had been at the rink and told me that the kid wasn't showing up yet and that I shouldn't be surprised if he doesn't show because he tends to do that alot and that yes he's driven the Zamboni but has no real formal training.

I thought about that when this kid was boring me to death as he bitched to me about how much he deserves to get paid as an ice arena worker. Through more random talk I could see why. He not only pointed out that he likes to do the bare minimum amount of work as possible. He had some interesting facts about the rink and stuff but he just came off to me as a rude know it all, and to be honest he was very condescending. Personally I can see why they didn't hire him in this supervisor position.

In my opinion this position does not require the bare minimum it requires one to think logically and be prepared for any situation and deal with different people. This is alot of responsibility and not to be taken lightly. Plus I don't think that's a very nice way to treat your supervisor especially if you're looking to move in the job you don't talk to your supervisor like that (no matter how new they are). If you're rude to anyone higher up than you, I'm pretty sure the boss is going to hear about it no mater what. There's a way to help out someone who's new without being condescending and rude.

Anywho that's all I have for now.

Life...

I stat my third week of my internship today. I have interned/worked every day for the past week. I shouldn't complain because it's really good to be busy with stuff, today I'm not in the mood today to do anything. I have to say it could be that I might have pulled something in my back yesterday at work, instead of pulling my bicep muscles, I killed my back.

I leave for my trip on Wednesday at like 6 in the morning, I'm pretty much all packed with exception for a couple things. I can't decide which stuffed penguin I want to take. I want to take Lenny but he's a husky bird... Carl is not big into traveling ... and the little penguins I usually take are not as cuddly..... so I might end up taking Lenny. I am excited to go, although I'm nervous about taking a plane all by myself. I think I can do it! I'm not the most patriotic person but I think it will be interesting to be in another country over the 4th of July. I might keep a newspaper from the date to see like what kind of stuff is going on in another country while people back home are getting drunk, boating, having bonfires, and wearing alot of red, white, and blue. Perhaps there will be something in the news about our independence day and i'd like to see first hand how another country responds to hearing about the US in the news. It just might be interesting and a good learning experience.

I'm still waiting for my new license to come in the mail, I'm glad I didn't loose my passport or anything like that.

Also I'm sad that several well known celebrities have died in the past week or so and I really respect that there are those grieving and I finally will admit I am going to miss Michael Jackson. He really was talented ( I guess I only was familiar with the Thriller album and those songs really get over played so I get annoyed with them). My mom and I sat and watched some music videos on VH1 classic last night, he really was good and I should have given him more credit, I was just too judgmental about his appearance. He was a pretty damn good dancer and some of his less popular videos are in my opinion really creative and totally the kind of stuff you can watch over and over because they're so interesting.

Well I know everyone's stupid facebook status's are all about people dying I thought I would mention a problem that directly affects an entire country, democratic stuff etc. etc. and possibly US relation to Honduras(which I could go on about...). The Honduran president was basically kicked out of the country by the Military....

FML

I lost my drivers license last night. Fuck... I have to pay for a replacement now. Ughh... NOT HAPPY AT ALL!

I felt so naked and alone without it today when I was driving to my new job, which I have to say is awesome. The brand spankin' new propane Zamboni at my new arena put the hunk of junk that my College had to shame, I know it's mean but seriously... this thing is badass...

Another poem

Cats

they have fur
It's everywhere

Then I can't breathe
and that just sucks

They purr
They Meow
They even like to hiss

They poop in a box
who honestly does that?
Cat's that's who

They like to scratch
With those claws of doom
They like to sink them into your skin

what i'm trying to say
is
I really hate cats

Poem

Chmiel got me to write a poem and I have the perfect inspiration.

A Message To You
( for a certain jerk from California)

How do you live with yourself?
Do you really think this is good for your health?

To use
To manipulate
To lead us on?

Yeah you got the look
You got the hot 'bod'
You even got that sexy charm

But you wait for the right time
And you go in for the kill

Sure it might seem like a thrill

But to wake the next day
Full of shame
And possibly in pain

Knowing that you used us
Just another notch in the old belt

Do you really like all that fame?
That fame of
Oh he's a snake
Yeah he gets around

Even the guys call you scum
and even.. "oh he's a rapist"

You open your mouth
that too gets around

Guess who gets hurt
Not you
But we do

Brag all you want
but some day it will come
It will come full circle and bite you in the ass

So when you are feeling hurt and used
think of what you did
you used all of us
and hurt us

We won't feel bad
We might even be glad

The big question is
Will you actually learn a lesson?
